A step and repeat banner (sometimes a step and repeat wall or press wall) is a publicity backdrop used primarily for event photography, printed with repeating logos or emblems that are visible in photographs of the individuals standing in front of it.

Why are they called step and repeat? Because the same image is shown over and over in multiple places. Step and repeat backdrop banners provide opportunities for everyone to stand on the red carpet and capture photos with the special event emphasized.

The most popular size is either an 8×8 or an 8×10. They can be used indoors or outdoors. That being said they come in all sizes and can be as long as 20 to 50 feet.

The typical size of a logo should be anywhere between 9 inches to 11 inches wide. You could opt for reducing the size but it will not feature well in photographs. You want the logos to be large enough to be readable to give the companies that sponsored the event exposure.

Giant Anemones for Sea World

For the all new Electric Ocean Nighttime Celebration Sea World decided to use giant inflatable balloons. Along with updating the Cirque water show they wanted to spice up the different areas of the park with bold and interesting new props and color. After spending time with their creative team we came up with a series of 10 – 10′ tall inflatable anemones that would be installed on the roofs of different buildings throughout the park. The size and shape made a wonderful and whimsical impression and after being internally lit was a real hit among the attendees at Sea World.

Airbrushing 101, Schooldaze!!!

Many years ago, when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, I was an airbrush artist at a place called Bigger Than Life. I came across these pics and thought I’d share them. Now we’d digi-print most of this. It will produce a more exacting inflatable but in the old days they were works of art. Enjoy! BTW, I’ve been asked and will put together a short video on how to clean an airbrush soon!
